Beyond Horsepower: 2027 Ram 1500 Suspension Upgrades

The 2027 Ram 1500 takes performance beyond horsepower with advanced suspension engineering, improved shock tuning, and specialized off-road components. From Saskatchewan’s gravel roads to muddy trails, the high-performance Ram 1500 RHO and returning TRX SRT offer impressive technology designed to keep the truck controlled over demanding terrain.

Bilstein Black Hawk e2 Adaptive Performance Shocks

One of the most impressive components is the Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive shock system, featured on the RHO and TRX SRT.

Unlike conventional shock absorbers, these electronically controlled dampers continuously monitor vehicle speed, steering angle, braking, throttle position, and torque. The system adjusts damping in real time, helping reduce excessive bouncing, body roll, and harsh impacts.

The technology includes several specialized components:

  • Dual-Valve Technology: Independently adjusts compression and rebound damping to improve wheel control over uneven surfaces.
  • Remote Reservoirs: Increase fluid capacity and help manage heat during demanding off-road driving.
  • Stainless Steel Braided Hoses: Resist corrosion and abrasion while tolerating pressures exceeding 5,800 PSI.
  • ZoneControl Hydraulic Cushioning: Uses secondary pistons to help prevent harsh suspension bottoming.

What’s Improved for 2027?

The returning 2027 Ram 1500 TRX SRT features updated Bilstein shock calibration and revised bump stops, refining impact absorption and suspension control compared with the previous TRX.

Its long-travel suspension provides approximately 33 cm of front travel, 35.5 cm of rear travel, and 30 cm of ground clearance. This allows the wheels to move through substantial suspension travel while helping the body remain controlled over challenging surfaces.

The Black Hawk e2 technology isn’t entirely new to Ram, as the RHO already offered it. The TRX’s updated tuning is one of the important developments for 2027.

More Power Meets Smarter Suspension

The TRX SRT returns with a supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 producing 777 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 75 horsepower over the previous TRX.

Ram’s Active Terrain Dynamics suspension management works alongside the adaptive shocks to optimize handling. Selectable Snow, Mud/Sand, Rock, and Baja modes further tailor vehicle behaviour to different driving conditions.
