- Change Your Tires! One of the most important ways that you can prepare for the cold and snowy months is to change your all season or summer tires to winter tires. Winter tires provide more grip and are specially engineered to handle slippery and snowy conditions. With more road grip, you should be able to make it up that snowy hill or prevent yourself from getting stuck in deep snow. Of course, this will depend on whether you have an AWD or 4WD vehicle or not.
- Get an Oil Change! Oil needs to heat up to properly circulate through your car and lubricate your engine. In winter months, since it is colder, that oil takes longer to heat up and may not lubricate your engine as quickly. This is especially true if your oil is old. Change your oil and it will be more effective at preventing engine wear when the weather is frightful.
- Refill Your Wiper Fluid! Stories and songs often talk about fluffy white snow but anyone that drives in the city can tell you exactly how dirty snow can be. It can fall on your windshield and make a real mess. Be sure to refill your wiper fluid before winter so you can clean off the dirt and mud that wet, slushy snow can throw onto your windshield.
