You should look for a flat area that is safely away from traffic. Guide your car to this area. Your jack will perform better when you are on firm ground, so avoid wet or muddy areas. If you have reflective signs, use them. Loosen the lug nuts of the tire a little and then raise the car with the jack. Remove the flat tire and replace it, being sure to tighten all the lug nuts.
